Ciro was born and raised in Florence, Italy and his trajectory towards wine began serendipitously in 1994 when then-owners Emilio and Riccardo offered him a position at the newly established Le Volpi e l'Uva, a pioneering wine bar in Florence. This locale followed an innovative approach, aiming to build connections with small wine producers and make wine accessible to all, revolutionizing the way wine was bought, sold, and presented. Over the years, Ciro's deep passion for wine blossomed, and in 2000 he became a partner in the business, setting the course for his future. He dedicated himself to wine education, earning multiple certificates and diplomas from Sommelier associations in Italy and abroad. Over the past three decades, he has cultivated relationships with wine producers throughout Italy and now takes pleasure in imparting his expertise with courses, wine tastings, and tours.

Karen has a sincere love of travel and exploring other cultures. She lived in England in the 1990s with her husband and three daughters providing her the opportunity to see much of the British Isles and mainland Europe. Her favorite place to travel is Italy, of course! She has traveled there many times to see Jessica (her favorite tour guide) and adores the spectacular cities, ancient ruins, history and above all, the food, wine and countryside. Yoga is also an indispensable part of her life - she is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher, and has studied with the Iyengars at the RMIYI in Pune India.

Jessica fell in love with Italy during her undergraduate studies and subsequently returned for a Master's program in Italian Gastronomy and Tourism at the University of Gastronomic Sciences. Her adventures led her to Tuscany, where she joined Spannocchia as the Education Director. She eventually relocated to Florence and for the last several years she has taught a course on "Food and Culture in Italy" for the University of Oregon and worked as a food and wine tour guide.
